KMB ushers in a break-through in customer service by introducing Hong Kong's first time-spanning customer service complex, the KMB Intelligent Customer Information Station, featuring an outdoor all-weather customer self-serve information enquiry system and friendly customer service ambassadors to serve passengers and tourists. A graphic wall is also introduced to commemorate a partnership of nearly 70 years between KMB and Hong Kong people. The Intelligent Customer Information Station commenced service at the Star Ferry Bus Terminus today (Friday, 15 November 2002). The opening ceremony was officiated at by Mr Robert Footman, Commissioner for Transport, and Ms Winnie Ng, KMB Executive Director.
Ms Winnie Ng, KMB Executive Director, said at the ceremony, "The Star Ferry Bus Terminus is one of the busiest bus termini in Hong Kong, serving an average of 30,000 passengers every day. Situated at a major tourist hub, we believe the KMB Intelligent Customer Information Station will become a major direct communication channel between KMB and our customers. The graphic wall introducing KMB's history and the sightseeing bus route information offer a user-friendly customer service for both locals and tourists."
Mr Robert Footman, Commissioner for Transport, added at the ceremony, "I believe the establishment of the Customer Information Station can help increase passengers' satisfaction towards bus services and I am glad to note that KMB will continue to make every effort to upgrade the quality of its customer service."
The Station comprises three parts, a graphic wall (14 metres long and 4 metres high), an outdoor all-weather customer self-serve kiosk and a customer service centre.
The graphic wall displays valuable KMB historical photos, depicting the development of KMB and its bus fleet since 1933. The photos, including early single deck buses and the newly introduced KMB Green Bus, demonstrate KMB's dedication to adapting to change.
The outdoor all-weather customer self-serve kiosk provides a wide variety of information for customers. The kiosk features various multi-media facilities. A LED display panel displays 24-hour bus route information from the Star Ferry Bus Terminus to various landmarks in Kowloon, helping tourists to go sightseeing on KMB buses. A 42-inch plasma screen is placed in the kiosk to play informative programmes, including tourist programmes introducing sightseeing spots in Tsim Sha Tsui. By means of the touch-screen LCD monitor, customers can access bus route information via the KMB Website point-to-point route search function. A location map of the Star Ferry Bus Terminus with all the terminating and passing bus routes and the queuing locations is also displayed in the kiosk. In addition, the kiosk showcases the full set of 51 KMB bus models and displays bus route leaflets.
The kiosk is equipped with an adjustable transparent roof, allowing customers to seek information under different climatic conditions. The transparent roof comes in a light green shade. Reinforced by a special ultraviolet-resistant surface treatment, the roof providing insulation against a large proportion of ultraviolet radiation. The roof, which acts as a shelter during the day, can be adjusted at night to provide cover for the multi-media facilities.
Situated next to the customer information kiosk is the customer service centre. Customer service ambassadors are on hand to provide customers with bus route information, KMB souvenirs and the Octopus card add-value service, as well as to collect customers' opinions.
